3 Unusual Treatments For Neck Pain

Posted on: 4 January 2018

If you would like to enhance the benefits of your chiropractic clinic visit without using prescription pain medications, consider using natural remedies. Neck pain can be caused by many different things, including arthritis, osteoporosis, trauma, and genetic disorders. It is important to get a proper diagnosis of your pain, but here are three unusual treatments you can try in the meantime.

Antihistamines

If you suffer from allergies, you may not realize, that in addition to a runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing, neck and back pain can occur. This is because allergies often trigger an inflammatory response, and when this happens, you may develop inflammation of your muscles, ligaments, and joints.

To dampen systemic inflammation, try taking an over-the-counter antihistamine such as diphenhydramine, that will help reduce the number of cytokines that are released into your bloodstream. Cytokines are substances that can lead to inflammation, pain, and even may suppress your immune system.

Food Eliminations

Certain foods can trigger neck pain, even if you are not allergic to them. Foods commonly implicated in the development of neck and back pain are those in the nightshade family. These include peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes, and while eating them cooked is usually not usually a problem, consuming them in their raw forms can cause body discomfort in those sensitive to the chemicals in the skin of these vegetables.

If you experience neck pain after eating nightshade foods, eliminate them from your diet to see if it helps. If you feel that you do not want to give up the nutritional benefits nightshades have to offer, consume them only after they are cooked, or in juice form.

Quitting Smoking

Cigarette smoking can cause damage to the small capillaries in your body. When this happens, circulation and blood flow is impeded, which can cause joint and muscle pain. If you are unable to quit smoking completely, try cutting down. If you need help, talk to your doctor about smoking cessation therapies that will help you kick the habit.

Once you quit smoking, circulation will be restored, in most cases, thereby improving circulation to your muscles and surrounding structures. While you are in the process of quitting or cutting down on smoking, talk to your physician about taking vitamin C and B vitamins. These nutritional supplements may help improve your circulation, and may even help eliminate sore muscles while helping to reduce inflammation.

If you have neck pain, visit your chiropractor to determine the cause. In the meantime, try using the above natural methods for pain relief. The sooner an effective treatment plan is implemented, the sooner you will enjoy relief from your neck pain. To learn more, contact a doctor like Dr. Shirali Kianian
