Managing Your Sciatica Pain: Options You Should Know

When you suffer from sciatica and the intense pain that goes with it, you may often feel as if there is no real escape from your pain and discomfort. However, the truth is that there are numerous treatment options to help you manage the condition itself as well as the pain. Yoga and Other Stretching 

Most people think of yoga as a type of workout regimen. However, there is much more to it than just a good workout. Yoga benefits the body and the mind in a variety of ways. Yoga also builds strength and suppleness in the muscles of the back. When the muscles of the back are able to properly support the spine, which can, in turn, help better manage sciatica. 

Stretching in general, even if it is not a part of a yoga practice, also carries many of the same benefits that yoga can provide, with the exception of strength-building. Performing daily stretches in your home that a doctor, yoga teacher, or physical therapist recommends can help to ensure that there is no major muscle tension in the lower back, reducing pain from sciatica. 

Chiropractic Care

A chiropractor's main focus in their work is the spine. The spine, along with the brain, is the hub of the central nervous system. Nerves run along the spine that connects all of the various systems of the body to the brain. The sciatic nerve is just one of those numerous nerves.

Chiropractors are trained to find and treat spinal misalignment issues. What this means is that a chiropractor can find vertebrae in the spine that are not in their proper position or alignment in the overall structure of the spine. When vertebrae are out of place, even slightly, they can disturb the function of the central nervous system by pinching, blocking, or otherwise irritating the nerves that run along the spine. 

Once a chiropractor finds these areas of spinal misalignment, they will begin making spinal adjustments to help encourage those vertebrae to move back into their correct place in the structure of the spine. Doing so can relieve nerve pressure, and in the case of sciatica, reduce lower back and leg pain and other symptoms.
